I've been in Australia seven years, a decent enough period of time to settle in yet sometimes Australia can feel so different. However, I believe in taking opportunities to be part of the community, and when the opportunity came about to provide my goods for a fundraising evening for Mordialloc Preschool I said YES!
I often find baking to be a therapy of sorts - it requires concentration and planning, shutting the world out to focus. It's also mindful, time spent with oneself to consider the day, what's on your mind and process it. And best of all, at the end you have something tasty to share or to provide to a customer - that's a big win!
Below is what I made for the event:
Cheesecake
Hazelnut chocolate cream cheesecake topped with Nutella buttercream, hazelnuts and a range of chocolates.
Cupcakes
Mocha: choc coffee cupcake, choc espresso filling, coffee buttercream and marshmallow.
Orange choc: choc orange cupcake with orange curd filling, chocolate buttercream and a choc orange segment.
Salted Caramel: caramel cupcake with salted caramel filling, caramel buttercream and caramilk square (to be popped on!).
Berry; vanilla cupcake with berry jam filling, merry cheesecake buttercream, scotch finger crumbs and a sugared strawberry.
Quiches of savoury ham and vegetarian variaties were also made.
I hope the event went well and lots of money was raised :)
